Deadline for document submission to register presidential candidate in Azerbaijan expires

MSK_logoDeadline for document submission to register presidential candidate has expired, APA reports. According to the legislation, a presidential candidate, an authorized representative of political parties and political parties’ blocks are to submit the candidate’s documents 30 days before the elections at 18:00.

According to the Calendar Plan of the Central Election Commission (CEC) regarding the presidential elections to be held on October 9, 2013, this date came to an end on September 9 at 18:00. The documents admission was started on August 20.

Pre-election campaign will be launched on September 16 and completed 24 hours before the voting – on October 8 at 08:00.

Totally, 21 persons’ candidacy has been approved up to now.

Ilham Aliyev, Igbal Aghazadeh and Zahid Oruj have already been registered as presidential candidates.

Jamil Hasanli, Ahmad Oruj, Sardar Mammadov (Sardar Jalaloghlu), Fuad Aliyev, Ali Aliyev, Araz Alizadeh, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Hafiz Hajiyev, Faraj Guliyev, Ilyas Ismayilov and Ilgar Mammadov (REAL Movement) have already submitted their signature sheets to CEC.

The candidacy of Rustam Ibrahimbeyov nominated by the National Council’s Initiative Group has not been approved.

Three persons – Ali Isa Aghaevli, Ilgar Mammadov (Ilgar Altay), Gudrat Isagov have withdrawn from presidential race on their initiatives. Arastun Orujlu refused to take part in the elections due to lack of 40,000 signatures.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9.
