Abid Sharifov: “Seismic resistance had not been taken into consideration in the buildings constructed in Azerbaijan before 1967”

“Anti-seismic measures had not been taken, nor seismic resistance had been taken into consideration in the buildings constructed in Azerbaijan before 1967”, Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov told journalists, APA reports.

According to him, even such anti-seismic measures were not considered in the project of 5-storeyed buildings in Yasamal: “The Ministry of Emergency Situations established a special commission to examine the projects against seismic resistance. The registration of new buildings is a serious matter. Within 20 years both inactive government agencies and cooperatives built houses without following the norms. 9-storey buildings are constructed while the permission allows constructing 7-storey buildings and 15-storey buildings are constructed instead of 9-storey buildings. There are more than 200 such buildings in Baku. Now we are thinking about the solution of this problem.”
